Hi guys and gals,
I am currently restoring a Blazer for very light running. I have had the frame powder coated gloss black and was wondering what you would do with the axles and tranny. I am skeptical of powder coating them due to the cost of each if they should deform due to the heat of curing the coating. Painting in an option but what color for them? Black axles with a silver tranny with possibly an orange motor to similate that era Chevy drive train? What are your ideas? Body is going to be a solid gloss medium blue- not metallic or metal flake.

Thanks.

Sorry, I put this in the wrong place! Should be under the Hilux/Balzer froum!!

axles will get scraped up, you might just want to leave bare, polish and clearcoat or paint silver.

I had a bruiser with the trans orange from e-bay, it looked hideous because of it's size. Trans I say should be left plain unless making a shelf queen.

I have red powdercoated axles, the guy who did mine had done many so I wasn't worried about warping but have heard horror stories

I agree that an orange tranny would be too much that is why I thought of just the motor orange and the tranny silver to match the axles or black axles. Actually the tranny would be closer to aluminum color as this is what a lot of trannies were in the 80's. I would polish the axles and tranny but I do not have the equipment to do it nor do I know anyone who might do it.

Orange tranny to simulate "chevy orange" would be a great contrast to the black frame. The striping & lettering on the body match; it would balance the colors nicely.

A black frame matches the black bumper, and and it all flows together well.

As for axles, I would paint, if anything at all, rather than powder coat. Preferably polish and clearcoat. Show off the metal and highlight the axles. They look great and deserve the attention. Black would make them blend into the rest of the chassis. As mentioned, powercoat requres heat to cure, and may warp the axles.

If you put a Bruiser skid plate on it, the factory chrome is perfect.

...Just Supra's 2 cents...
