Here's a mod I did to my Knight Hauler. I wanted to slow things down and make it more manueverable at low speeds. The output shaft on the tranny was turned down to be compatible with the GD600 unit. The driveshaft is an extended one salvaged from a Tmaxx.

Looks like a well thought-out conversion monsterbeetleguy - What's a GD600 unit? Is it a Tamiya reduction box?

It's a reduction for airplanes. They are available at tower hobbies. Just do a search for gd-600. It's a very ***** alternative to other reductions for the rigs. So for so good with it!

you have to buy the 2.5:1 version then buy the optional pinion to get it down to 3.8:1. which is almost 4:1...I hope this helps!

Wedico .... Gardentrucking.com ... has a gear reduction unit also but probably more expensive. It is made for us though if I am not mistaken.

Yes PMD does have a 4:1 availble in a nice shiney aluminum case but with a $140 price tag. With a little elbow grease and about $20 you can get the same effect...

Hi
Carson (Germany) has something similar : Carson (Germany) - Transfer gear 4:1 (http://www.carson-modelsport.com/de/modelle/truckmodelle/zubehoer/rtp/13517/produktdetails.htm)
The part is particularly made for Tamiya Trucks!
Or you make it as I: TruckPuller2 engine of LRP and 6-tooth pinion - gives power.

The German version of the tamiya/carson 4:1 will run about $75 shipped to the U.S.
The truck puller 2 motor with the 6 tooth pinion will work but does not conserve batter life like the auxillary transmissions do. The aux trans, will lower the current draw needed by the motor. With a 4:1 and lathe motor my 3600 mah time probably 1 1/2 hrs (estimate as I never have been able to run the truck that long at one shot). The auxillary trans also works as a great break, especially with heavy loads and inclines.

Greg,
I may look into that Carson unit instead of the PMD version. I'd rather have aluminum bling you can see on the topside as opposed to the underside...Now just gotta translate a site that sells it...Any help?

Brad, ya know I'm weak at German but there are several sites selling this case, TTM modellbau is one

. I can't remember, but I think the internals are steel. You could contact Kai, he sells almost everything and you wouldn't have to hassel with the language barrier or the stupid bank wire transfer to Germany, I think Kai may do paypal, not positive....give him a ring. Not to metion, Kai can sell without the V.A.T and that should have about 19 percent. For the money, I still stand by the PMD case. The shafts are included in the PMD tranny also, alone they are worth about 50 dollars. But, if the price is right on the carson, I'd go for it!

One other plus for the PMD unit. In the PMD unit, all gears and shafts are ball bearing supported. The Carson unit, that I saw, had one gear running directly on the shaft without a bearing. A small difference pehaps, but for holding up to loads over time I prefer full bearing support.
