View Full Version : The truth about the Hilux Hi-Lift body.

Ever since Tamiya re-released a limited amount of the mounty body. I am eager to own one for my bruiser. But I can't justify spending $350 just for a body. Now here comes the Hilux Hi-lift. At least it's not just a body, but a complete kit that I can enjoy building.

So my question is. What's the truth about the body that will come with this Hi-Lift? Is it single piece or two piece? Does it have tiliting bed? A Modified Bed? Does the specs changed from the re-release mounty body?

Maybe the best question is: How far is it from the ORIGINAL VINTAGE body? and can I use it on my bruiser?

Maybe someone can enlighten me. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is one piece. No, it does not have a tilting bed. Not sure what you mean by "modified bed". You can read more about this in other posts in the forum.

Don't know since I never saw this "re-release" of the mounty body.

Those are good questions, but since I don't have an original body, I can't compair. I think these two questions can not be answered until the truck comes out and people try.

What I meant about "modified bed" is the recess area in the original mounty bed where the on/off switch is located. I am wondering if they made the whole bed flat on this hilux hilift.

Yes, it is one piece. No, it does not have a tilting bed.

So, its molded as a single piece like the clod buster shell? Or is it still a cab section, bolted to the bed section like the original bruiser and mountaineer?

Do you mean one piece - but really its still 2 parts bolted together?

We're getting confused

It looks like two piece bolted together, I can see the same two screws on each side that holds the cab and the bed together as the Mounty. The picture at Tamiya Japan S.Show, shows a good pictures of it.

But like McFig mentioned already it's too early to tell now! wait a week or two after that Hobby show in Japan ends, i'm sure by that time we will know more about the new Hilux from all those people that went there and drool over it and inspect it more closely. LOL

sad.. i was expecting something similar or more upgraded to legendary bruiser/mounty but instead tamiya is coming out with somthing cheaper and simple stuff. why cant they just re-release the bruiser/mounty. i'm willing to pay $800 +

All I care about is the body is the same dimensions as the original Bruiser/Mounty.

The original hilux/brusier will always be special with there all metal construction and collectable. What I like about the new Hilux is that it does have inexpensive plastic parts. If you run your hilux over rocks etc the axles will get scared. Plastic housings are cheap to replace and give a model a new lease on life. for special projects I am willing to file, drill etc on plastic housings, not so much with the metal ones. I sold my old hilux because I felt guilty about running it. But I can hardly wait for the new one! I just wish it was like the re-released Brat and came with a 2nd lexan top for harder running!

The brush guard will need changing on the new hilux, it looks terrible.

but hey look at the upside, check out the details on the new Hilux body, look at those tiny F&R side fender markers, they lights up too. :Tamiya1: When I get one or two I'll either lower the body or put bigger tires then it'll be perfect.

From what I saw when I held the truck in my hands. It is one molded piece. If it is two pieces screwed together then it is the best mold I've ever seen, since they look and feel like one piece. :bangin:

It is not a solid flat bed. There are two cut out sections in the bed that have covers on them that look removable.

Because most people won't.

Thank you for the replies McFig.

Any chance of taking some close up pics of the body? top, bottom, front and rear?

Why don't you take that $800 and buy an original release bruiser? I have seen some nice one go for cheaper.

I just got a viewing of the truck, so you would have to ask JAnderson or Larrio for that.

Sit tight everyone, i'm currently in the process of doing that.

I just finished taking pictures of it last Friday.

Not meaning to muddy the waters here, and it is slightly off ACTUAL topic....BUT

If we are going 2 have the California Surfer theme here wouldn't it have been cool to bring back the stepside body style from the original Hilux?!!!!!

This is the part where I open my mouth and insert both of my feet. :frusty:

The body is two pieces screwed together. When I got my first viewing it was commented to me by some Tamiya guys that it is one piece. I took their word for it and it looked like one piece. Today, I got to look at the truck again and sure enough, its two pieces screwed together. I quickly pointed that out to the other guys.

But I am not going to blame anyone else. I made the statement and I can admit when I'm wrong. Sorry for the false information. I should of looked more closely the first time.

Please don't hang me. :butcher:

No worries McFig. You won't get hang'd, only crucified! LOL. You've been good enough to answer all my questions. My only concern was if it will fit the Bruiser.

Thank you for that added info. For sure this will clear things up.

If you fellas want more specific shots of a certain area, please let me know.

I'm not sure how much longer i'll have the prototype car here in the States.

So will this one really be out in November, or is November getting pushed back to April, like with the F-350?

Larrio

I don't have any ETAs for an arrival date.

We are hoping for a simultaneous worldwide release to prevent a flux of overseas sales.

Cool!

Could we have some close ups of the inside of truck bed, front bumper and grill, and some of the chassis (body mounts etc..)

Ooo and how about some pics with different wheels and tyres - 2.2 size or even tlt-1 wheels.

Is the window/glass the same as the Mounty where it also doubles as the back wall of the cab?

Inside shots of the body will be great and oh, of course the main chassis itself.

Thank you!

I can't do anything about the tires/wheels since I don't have any on me.

As for the requested shots, they are up:

thanks Larrio!

Ok last question

does the shell mount on the 3 body posts with the cab also secured like the F-350 with 2 screws each side below the doors of the cab?

It looks like it does, and its not a bad idea either as that shell could break easily on a roll down some rocks!

Larrio
10-18-2007, 10:32 AM
I believe so. When I took off the Hilux body for the pictures, there were 2 screws on each side of the doors, 1 screw on the front hood, and 2 screws on the back trunk bed.

Keep the questions or requests coming because you'll regret it if Japan tells us to send it back after the show. heh

mymonsterbeetleisbroken
10-18-2007, 10:48 AM
oh right cool, so they are screws and not regular body posts with body clips.

i cant think of anything else myself - i'm just waiting for the thing to be released
